Bring Home Amazing Sand Ball Sisyphus Table

Bruce Shapiro is a motion control artist and a science educator. He is the founder of Sisyphus Industries. The Sisyphus Industries brought the kinetic sand drawing in a table and named it the sand ball table. 

Using CNC technology, the industry is transforming the standard wooden tables into the sand ball table. The Sisyphus tables are first-of-their-kind kinetic art tables that are controlled by a computer chip. 


This computer-programmed chip is called a Pi computer. This Pi computer is the brain of the entire table, as it contains the information about the different patterns to display on the sand table.

The sand ball table has a fine layer of sand. On this sand, a metal ball moves in different directions and makes eye-catching patterns. 

Moreover, to make the patterns and designs more attractive, the manufacturer has integrated the table with different colored LED lightings. These lightings glow in different color patterns to make the design patterns more attractive and beautiful.

Shapiro designed a robot called Sisbot and installed it on the table. This robot's work is to move the metal ball on the sand silently and slowly, thus creating stylish designs.

Sisyphus's kinetic sand drawing table is not only a kinetic art piece but also an instrument. This is because the table comes with a wireless connectivity feature. 

This wireless connectivity feature lets the users connect their smartphones with the table and control the design patterns of the table as per their requirements.

The Sisyphus app developed by the industry has 25 tracks that can create more than 160 unique sand patterns. Isn't it amazing?

To ensure that the Sisbot robot works efficiently, the company tests all Sisyphus sand ball tables multiple times.

After completing the testing phase, the CNC machined hardwood veneers with walnut or cherry by using the lacquer. It is then left for drying before applying to the table.

After that step, the hardwood veneer rings are sprayed with lacquer. This process of costing and spraying takes up to 30 minutes. After that, the rings are transferred to the drying rack. Here, they are left undisturbed for the whole day to get completely dry.

In the next step, the company starts welding the steel metal frames. The company performs the welding process before the powder coating. After this process, the company begins assembling the base of the table.

Now, to each metal frame, a completely assembled SIsbot robot is installed. Moving forward, the company installs LED lighting to the circumference of the kinetic sand drawing table. 

At this step, the company tests the Sisbot for 24X7. This is to ensure the long-lasting functionality of the Sisbot. The final step is to pour the white silica into the table and cover the table with tempered glass.
